Would it be cool to game with a flight stick in your left hand and a mouse in your right? You could program all the face buttons to keyboard keys, map WASD to movement of the flightstick itself, use the trigger as a modifer key to double button capacity, use same modifer for doubling mouse button's for the right hand, you could pretty much have all the essential functions for most any game at your finger tips and never have to give up any movement or aiming ability. but that takes too much moving and picking up the mouse which would lead to stuttered movement.Īs I brainstorm a solution to this problem, the idea of another controller poped into my head, what if you use a 360 controller in your left hand and a mouse in your right - wait a second, why not a flight stick? And then I have my questions (above). then you could just move the mouse forward to move forward.

So what solution does that give me - is there such a thing as a Left Handed mouse, that I can use in conjunction with a regular right handed mouse? Windows is only designed for 1 mouse, so I wouldn't have two cursors, but what about one that you could map movement to key presses. As my finger leaves the movement keys to strike other actions, if I need that movement the moment I move my finger off to hit the other key, it can cost your life in the game. The left hand however, still suffers (to a degree) to the controller issue, my fingers must be present on the WSAD keys to ensure quick movement, if I move a finger off of one of those keys to a key on the 1-0 row, or press R to reload, or F to open a door, I am moving my finger off of the D key to hit these, or the middle finger to strike the others. I've always preferred the Mouse+Keyboard setup to play FPS games, as a mouse disables the problem with my right hand, I move the entire hand to aim, and I have the use of my thumb and middle finger to strike additional buttons. And your thumbs leaving those thumbsticks disables your gameplay in a real-time game where positioning and aiming is critical like in a FPS game. If a game requires the use of both thumbsticks, and you need to use more than the trigger buttons or top buttons that your index finger touches, your thumbs will have to leave those sticks at some point to use the D-Pad or central button and your right thumb has to leave to touch the right face buttons (A B Y X on a 360 controller). There inlies the inherent flaw in all joysticks/contollers ever created.

As I start to press Y to bring this menu up, a terrorist rushes through the doorway, escaping the center of my targeting reticule, I fire, miss, my thumbstick races back to the right thumbstick to adjust my aim, I adjust, am about to fire, when I get killed by said terrorist. While guarding, I decide maybe the shotgun would serve me better, and my thumb leaves the right thumbstick (which is used to aim) to press the Y button and hold it for a second to bring up the change weapon pop-up display. I'm holding a position, guarding a doorway, but I have a blindspot, I can't see directly through the doorway, only what comes through it. I was playing a first person shooter (Rainbow Six Vegas 2) the other day and became irritated at a flaw in controller design. Are there any flight stick's that can mapped to WASD key's on a keyboard? For instance, if I push forward on my flight stick, my computer will read that as me holding the W key down (moving forward in a game).ĭo you or anyone you know attempted this (if possible)?Įxplanation (not required reading for my questions)
